Subject Details: I have experience working with elementary students in Naperville school districts 203 and 204. I recently completed my MA in Reading. I specialize in diagnosing reading difficulties and implementing reading remediation to improve reading skills. In schools I've used read alouds, shared reading, guided reading, reading strategies, and individual conferences to teach reading comprehension. I have taught the six traits of writing: ideas, organization, voice, fluency, word choice, and conventions. For math I've taught students patterns, time, money, algebra, and word problems. In science I have taught students to observe, ask questions, make predications, and examine their environment.

Tutor's Personal Statement: I believe that patience, empathy, organization, positive reinforcement techniques, and the sheer enjoyment of learning are important attributes of my teaching. Skills including organization, lesson preparation, and clear behavioral expectations are key in my work. I pay attention to students in a positive way, telling them what you want them to do, instead of negative responses. I have worked with students who have a wide range of skills and abilities. I concentrate on the use of all senses (auditory, visual, kinesthetic, etc) when educating, allowing learners to use their best learning strategies.

Experience with Special Needs Situations: I've worked with students who have special needs for over 10 years. I have a passion for helping students in reaching their full potential.I am familiar with and have used many different types of assistive technology including but not limited to: dragon naturally speaking, intellitools/intellikeys, read and write gold, dt trainer, zoomtext, wireless headmouse, on screen keyboards, special keyboards, ergonomic mouse, and windows accessibility options. I've completed assistive technology evaluations, educated others on assistive technology, and evaluated student progress.
