Q1. What are the rates for tutoring?
Typically $40-60 per hour. Hourly rates for one-on-one tutoring are set by each tutor according to what they believe their time, training, and experience are worth. Tutors in the Northeast (for example, New York and Boston areas) typically charge a higher rate. When we present you with potential tutoring candidates, we will let you know each one's hourly rate. For an even more economical option, consider forming a tutoring group. Visit our group tutoring
page to learn more.
Q2. How much do I have to pay up front?
You don't! Unlike many of the other large so-called "learning centers", we are not trying to sell you up front on a large comprehensive learning program with a large price tag. Instead, we follow a pay-as-you-go system whereby you
choose the tutoring frequency which fits your needs and budget. At the end of each month you pay via credit/debit card only for the tutoring sessions you have used
. We do not force you to spend a minimum amount each month!
Q3. Where do tutoring sessions take place?
One-on-one tutoring sessions generally take place at the student‘s home, but they can also take place at a neutral location such as a local library if the home is not the most conducive tutoring environment. Also, please note that our tutors are not permitted to provide transportation to the student at any time.
Q4. How often should tutoring take place?
Students typically meet with their tutors once or twice a week but the frequency can vary depending on the student’s learning habits and the urgency of the tutoring needs being addressed.
Q5. What is your program?
We have done advanced work in the field of brain research and learning habits. We realize that no two students are the same in terms of their learning styles and their current needs. Accordingly our tutors treat each student on a fully CUSTOMIZED basis. We are not trying to push you into a cookie-cutter program. Let's start with a blank slate and work our way from there.
Q6. What grade levels do you tutor?
Our tutors primarily work with pre-school through high school students, although we do have some college-level and adult education tutoring clients as well. Our tutoring clients include gifted students, students who need a little extra help, average students looking to get ahead, and special needs students as well.
Q7. How is EleMental Learning different from any other tutoring company?
The most obvious way is that ALL of our tutors are fully vetted. We are not just an online posting site where anybody can sign up. Our experienced staff reviews the credentials of all new tutors before we approve their online profile for activation. Furthermore, most of the tutors are actual state-certified teachers, and those who aren't must undergo a criminal background check before being matched with a client. We have yet to find another tutoring provider that holds its tutors to such high standards.
Q8. Do you offer online tutoring or do you only offer in-person tutoring?
EleMental Learning started as an in-person tutoring company. But we have adapted to the times and we now offer tutoring in both in-person and online (Skype) formats. Here is our list of online tutors
Q9. What does the tutor expect of the student and the parent?
Students should be on time and prepared for each tutoring session. Also, if either the student or the tutor are kept waiting for a scheduled appointment then they will be compensated for their waiting time. Also, for in-home tutoring sessions, a parent or legal guardian is required to be at home for the duration of the session.
Q10. If my child isn't "clicking" with his/her assigned tutor, can I request a different one?
Of course. The customer is always free to request a tutor change, although we would ask for the customer’s feedback in order to ensure that the reasons for the request can be used to select a more suitable replacement.
Q11. Do you accept credit/debit cards?
Yes, we accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover.
Q12. Do you provide test prep tutoring for the SAT, the ACT, state tests (e.g., NY Regents), AP Tests and other standardized exams?
Absolutely! We have many tutors who are very experienced in preparing students for these very important exams.
