Tutor's Personal Statement: I have an excellent rapport with children ages 3 through 8. I am warm and positive with an infectious energy for being motivated to succeed. My approach to teaching is to provide a safe learning environment where there are no such things as mistakes. Instead, there are simply opportunities for learning in new and fun ways. I like to appeal to a child's imagination and relate to what is important in his or her perspective and world. For example, if a first grade child is showing little interest in reading, I would take the time to get to know him or her well enough so that I can provide the materials that would stimulate more interest in books. Perhaps a trip together to the local library might be just the experience that this child needs to tap in to the wonderful depth of curiousity that they each have!

Experience with Special Needs Situations: Since I have most of my experience with 3-5 year olds and they are too young to be tested for learning and behavioral challenges, I am not an expert with children who's actions, behaviors and/or work, have indicated that they may be challenged with ADHD, Asperger's Syndrome, dyslexia and other learning challenges. I have however, taught children who's behavior or abilites indicate the need for further investigation and diagnosis. I have found that patience and acceptance of each child as a special and unique person, goes a long way in finding the best practices for insuring that the child enjoys learning and establishing that foundation, is vital to their future success!
