Tutor's Personal Statement: Having had my own difficulties in mathematics growing up, I had to call on an outside tutor to guide me through my school studies. Having a tutor allowed me to keep up in the classroom and feel confident while in class. I believe a tutor has the same responsibilities as a teacher. I believe an outstanding tutor/teacher is patient, willing and positive. One must put their student's needs first and encourage their students. Reading and writing are two of my own passions and I want to pass this enthusiasm onto my students. I would encourage students to aim high and pursue their goals. Education is one of the most valuable things a person can have. When you are educated, you can achieve anything. Not only can you thrive in the workforce, but you can prosper in everyday life. A teacher has the ability to pass on many lessons and one of those lessons is self-confidence. When a student has a teacher that believes in him/her, that student is given the assurance to learn and grow. An outstanding teacher encourages his/her students to excel in their studies and exemplifies a positive role model.

Experience with Special Needs Situations: I have worked with students with varying cases of special needs. I have had to work one-on-one with a student who has autism while a day later I may have worked with a student who has difficulty reading. Having substitute taught for a number of years, I was able to bounce around and really work with a variety of students. I am educated about working with children who have special needs and know the kind of patience that is expected when teaching.Every teacher must realize that they are going to come across students who vary in all aspects, from their learning habits to their behaviors. At George Armstrong Elementary, where I completed student teaching, I experienced multiple levels of skill and learned how to teach so that all students' needs were addressed.
