I love seeing my students make connections between language and ideas, and watching them progress in terms of grammar, spelling, vocabulary, essay, and reading comprehension.I believe it's important to help kids and adults reframe their feelings about subject areas they are intimidated by, frustrated with, even angry over! Language and literature are the building blocks of communication, self-expression, and story. Struggles with these subjects can be overcome! Tutor's Personal Statement: Kids like me! Particularly in a private tutor setting, it's important to balance of trust, patience, and accountability between student and teacher. That said, tutoring is a wonderful opportunity for both sides. As a teacher, I relish the ability to focus 100% of my time and attention on ONE student! It's a fun challenge for me to assess his or her strengths and weaknesses, then put together an array of strategies tailored to the student - and see which ones they connect with! Having attending an arts school for my master's degree, I tend to think outside the box when it comes to tutoring - this is GOOD for child because, if he or she is struggling at school, clearly something just isn't working for them in the way the subject has been presented to them thus far - maybe they need more time to digest information, or they are a visual learner, or work better one-on-one. I love taking "dry" subjects and finding new ways for students to 'get psyched' about them!

Experience with Special Needs Situations: I have tutored children on the autism spectrum, as well as developmentally delayed youth.
